Two provinces, two systems

Alberta: a regulated market and 18+

On July 13, 2026, Alberta launched its regulated online gaming market. Management sits with the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC), and regulation with AGLC. To operate online, a company needs AGLC registration and a signed operating agreement with AiGC. The list of registered sites is at abigaming.ca.

Only players physically located in Alberta may play. That holds for a reader on the Alberta side of Lloydminster too: the rule turns on location, not home address. AGLC runs PlayAlberta.ca, known as Play Alberta, the online gaming site owned by the province. Alberta sets its legal gambling age at 18. Staff at any Alberta casino must ask anyone who looks under 25 to show valid government-issued photo ID.

Saskatchewan: PlayNow.com and 19+

PlayNow.com is the sole legal online gaming platform in Saskatchewan. SIGA operates it, the same organization that runs Gold Horse Casino. It launched in the province in November 2022. SIGA's online exclusivity was extended to September 2029.

Lotteries and Gaming Saskatchewan (LGS), a Crown corporation, oversees all lotteries and gaming in the province. It has held full conduct and management powers since June 1, 2023. A different body, the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA), handles regulation. Anyone under 19 counts as a minor, the definition set by The Alcohol and Gaming Regulation Act, 1997. Casinos and PlayNow.com are both 19+.

How this guide is paid

Lloydminster Casinos, also signed as the Border Desk, is a guide that works independently and is not a casino. The site accepts no bets and holds no accounts. Paid links are confined to the front page, each one labelled Ad. Three sit there in all: a menu button, a block under the opening screen and a link close to the bottom of the page.

The partner behind all three is a single private online casino for adults, and it pays the guide a commission. Neither Saskatchewan nor Alberta runs, approves or licenses the partner, and it is not a site of either provincial government. The partner also has no connection with Gold Horse Casino or SIGA. The partner can change, and it is not named on any page.
